Registered Membership of the ARA (RMARA) is the established level of excellence for the profession. It communicates to employers, clients and the public that they can expect high standards of professional knowledge, competency and integrity.
Enrolment criteria
Enrolment is open to all Individual Members of the ARA, regardless of experience or academic qualification. However, we make the following recommendations to help potential candidates decide whether they have sufficient experience;
- Candidates with an ARA-accredited post graduate qualification may enrol at any time.
- Candidates who have successfully completed a Level 7 Archivist and Records Manager apprenticeship may enrol at any time.
- Candidates with a post graduate qualification in a related subject (including international Archives and Records Management qualifications) may need 2 years' relevant work experience before enrolment.
- Candidates with degree in a related subject (including international Archives and Records Management qualifications) may need 5 years' relevant work experience before enrolment.
- Candidates with qualifications below the degree level may require 5+ years' relevant work experience before enrolment.

- Mentor reference
- 8 competency forms, each of a maximum of 1000 words, at a minimum of attainment levels 2-3
- Maximum of 3 competencies at level 2
- At least 2 competencies from each of the 3 areas
There are two assessment cycles each year. The closing dates for Registered Membership applications are 31st March and 30th September.
